Orchestra of St John’s
Last year I had the great privilege of capturing John Lubbock’s inspiring orchestra at work.
Over the course of one morning, the Orchestra of St John’s played a number of pieces, whilst children with autism were invited to come and conduct for the musicians. At first, quite a few of the children weren’t too sure how to react to this remarkable experience of being so close to the curious musicians and the dazzling array of noises they were producing. But after a little while, something changed and you would often see a transformation as these little conductors began to engage and connect with the music around them. By the end of the morning, when the music had finally ceased and the musicians had packed up, the building was still buzzing with the excitement of the parents and carers who had come along and the children who were reliving and retelling their moment of mastery over the music.
These are a couple of my shots from that time.
